Accredited hospitals make a step forward in integrative wellness therapies

Beginning January 1, 2018, The Joint Commission is requiring accredited hospitals to include non-pharmaceutical options to their pain management strategies. This is a great step forward in the integration of non-invasive complementary therapies with traditional medical care.

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits nearly 21,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. The Joint Commission’s revised requirements were developed through a rigorous research, evaluation and review process. Part of the updated requirement requires accredited hospitals to hire licensed, independent practitioners, and  ‘…provide educational resources and programs to improve pain assessment, pain management and the safe use of opioid medications based on identified needs of its patient population’.

U.S. Veterans Administration Approves Integrative Health Modalities

In July, "Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) has been approved as a "generally safe" therapy by the U.S. Veterans Administration (VA). After reviewing the extensive evidence for the safety and efficacy of EFT, a group of experts in the VA's Integrative Health Coordinating Center published a statement approving EFT and several other complementary and integrative health (CIH) practices.

The approval means that VA therapists will be able to use EFT with their clients suffering from PTSD, depression, anxiety, pain and other conditions."

Interested in how all this energy healing stuff works?

Yes, it all seems very vague and mysterious.  It's one of those things you have to experience to truly understand the magnitude of its power.  The chakras (our bodies energy centers) are at the center of the theory behind all of this, and the goal is to have to have our chakras balanced so that energy flows freely and our body begins to be able to self-heal.  Energy healing uses non-invasive techniques to facilitate clearing, energizing, and balancing the human and environmental energy fields, thus affecting physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.   If you want to learn more about the chakras specifically, there is a great article in the latest issue of Energy Magazine (Sept/Oct 2017 issue, pp. 17-21), called "Architecture of the Soul: How the Chakras Handle Energy," by Anodea Judith, PhD.  Check it out and contact us if you'd like to give a Healing Touch session a try!   We also do private sessions outside of our senior communities for our Illuminate Integrative Healing business.
